Mindsize Hires Rian Kinney as Director of Operations

We’re proud to announce that Rian Kinney has joined Mindsize as our Director of Operations.

Rian is a recognized tech and privacy attorney in the Open Source space, having spoken on everything from contracts to privacy law, nationally and internationally.

What’s your background?

As the Founder of Kinney Firm, Rian has worked and served in leadership positions in the legal and real estate industries, for over a decade.”When I attended my first WordCamp in 2017, I knew that I found the specific group of businesses and entrepreneurs that I wanted to work with; I found my people. Since 2017, I’ve been actively involved in Open Source communities, I’ve assisted with coordinating, as well as volunteered and spoken at WordCamps, nationally and internationally. My firm represented and advised founders and businesses of every size, from freelancers to enterprise; across industries, in the areas of intellectual property, e-commerce, privacy and corporate law, as well as business and marketing strategy. And after I earned the International Association of Privacy Professional’s Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) and Certified Information Privacy Professional- Europe CIPP/E) designations, I have consulted for, and with, enterprise digital agencies in developing their privacy and accessibility audits, as well as other service offerings. Most recently I was appointed Vice-Chair of the American Bar Association’s Committee on Open Source Software.

How did you learn about Mindsize?

I first met Zach at WordCamp MPLS (the first camp I spoke at) and later he was referred to me by a client. Patrick I met “virtually” on Twitter when he was having shipping issues and I jumped in to offer assistance. After working with Zach on a few matters and discussing our business and life approaches it became obvious that we shared a similar mindset and I wanted to be more involved with protecting and growing Mindsize, if possible. I absolutely love the culture and fully distributed model that Mindsize cultivates so to be invited to lend my knowledge and expertise to, and actually be a part of, such an incredible team is an exciting opportunity.

What will you be doing in the company?

Anything and everything that is required to operate and scale a successful business. From marketing, branding, client negotiation, satisfaction and dispute resolution, to product and services development and day-to-day operations, I look forward to making a positive impact in the operations of a company experiencing exponential growth.
